Q. We process a very abrasive material. Is there anything we can do to minimize degradation in our dust collection system -- both the baghouse and the bag filters?
A. Assuming that there’s no chemical attack on the baghouse or the filter elements from moisture or acid gases, there are several design and maintenance techniques that will combat abrasion and prevent emissions permit compliance problems. The available techniques include reducing particle velocity, installing wear-resistant materials, and applying predictive maintenance to anticipate leaks. It’s most effective to apply as many of the techniques as possible. Although it’s ideal to apply the techniques before the baghouse ....
